Thank you for such a successful event!
The first annual Barron D. Goodson Memorial Classic Car & Truck Show, held at the Backing Up Classics Auto Museum in Concord, NC, on August 25, 2012, was a rousing success, thanks to all of you! Over 148 absolutely beautiful cars and trucks and somewhere between 300-350 people came out on a beautiful Saturday to support the North Carolina Lung Cancer Partnership. We raised a whopping $7,700 over just 6 hours, and with well over $5,000 in sponsorship funding are writing a check to the NCLCP for just over $13,000! This with a 50/50 prize worth nearly $550! All of these numbers are unheard of for a first car show, and we are truly humbled by the outpouring of support from so many drivers, spectators, family, friends, our fantastic sponsors, and Jimmy Morrison and Pat Suddeth of the Backing Up Classics Auto Museum. It was a wonderful day of absolutely top-notch vehicles, great food and music, children’s entertainment, and fabulous prizes and giveaways for some lucky individuals, all in the name of a special man which we feel helped to raise major awareness about lung cancer. Barron was absolutely present in spirit, and we felt and saw his touch in everything throughout the course of the day.
The number of positive and enthusiastic responses we received from drivers and other attendees at the event and afterward on our Facebook group and event pages has just been staggering, and we are already committed to a second show in 2013! More details and information to follow, so stay tuned! In the meantime, we hope you’ll enjoy our 2012 Goodson Classic Photo Gallery!
Also, here are some interesting stats on the eras of the vehicles in attendance:
1960 – 1969: 45
1970 – 1979:19
1980 – 1989: 2
1990 – 1999: 3
2000 – 2009: 12
2010 – 2013: 25
As Barron would say, “Many thanks,” to absolutely everyone who assisted in making this event such a successful car show and such a fitting tribute to an extraordinary human being.
