2013 Car Show

Thank You for Another Fantastic Year!

The rain may not have missed the 2nd Annual Barron D. Goodson Memorial Classic Car & Truck Show, but it certainly didn’t dampen our spirits!  The day was a resounding success, with over 115 paid registered vehicles. Classic and muscle cars and trucks continued to arrive at the CMC-Northeast Stadium throughout the morning, and drivers enjoyed the talent of our MC, Gary Walter, children’s activities, terrific food and sweets, and some friendly competition over top-notch raffle and silent auction items. The Gatorade baseball cap worn and signed by Dale Earnhardt, Sr. went for over $425.00, and the 50/50 prize was drawn from over $856.00! Over $7,000 was added to our fund in just six hours, and with generous sponsorships we raised $17,039.28 for the Lung Cancer Initiative of North Carolina! Despite the weather, our fundraising campaign topped the 2012 fund by $4,000, and we have now contributed $30,000 to the fight against lung cancer.

This year our new Wall of Honor assisted with putting a face to the disease, and we appreciate your participation in our effort to remember those affected by lung cancer. The day was rounded off by the presentation of trophies, kindly assisted by former Magic 96.1 DJ, Jim Schafer. The winners included:

Barron consistently urged His Girls to ‘plan your work and work your plan,’ which dovetails with the Lung Cancer Initiative of NC’s motto of ‘hope in action.’ The Goodson Classic is proud to be part of that important work. We thank each and every one of you for your continued support as we stand up to lung cancer in honor of Barron and all those affected by this disease, and we look forward to seeing you all again soon!
